Superior Srenior High School

Superior, Wisconsin

I am a teacher of drama and communications at Superior Senior High School. My school has 1500 students in grades 9-12. The students study all courses for college entrance including English, history, science, mathematics, and computer. The curriculum is rounded out with a liberal arts offering for students entering other fields or entering the working world. These classes include art, music, theatre, business, vocational education, television technology, distributive education, library science, and topics related to science, such as biology, physics, geology, and psychology.
Superior is small with 32,000 people. Tourism drives our economy now, whereas railroads, shipping and foresty were the earlier economic forces. We are located on the tip of Lake Superior being the farthest inland port. Along with Duluth, Minnesota, our sister city, we support international shipping for 9-10 months per year. The major porducts shipped out of Duluth/Superior are ire ore, grain, and general products.
Life is simple in my town with a priority placed on humanist pursuits. We enjoy nature, but also are avid hunters. We enjoy nature in its pure state, but also cultivate gardens and encourage industry.
An average weekend may include a trip to the shops in one of our malls, a movie, a walk in the country, and some work at home. We all have cars and travel readily.
An average week includes a 40-50 hour work week. Evenings are spent relaxing or continuing work from the day.
Our greatest joy is spending time with family and friends.
